Commissioning a Design Leather Binding
Each custom binding I create is one of a kind, crafted entirely by hand using traditional binding techniques and high quality materials. Whether you are looking to rebind your favorite novel, commission a one-of-a-kind gift or add a bespoke volume to your private library, I will work closely with you to bring your project to life.

If you want to commision a binding you can supply the text block (lose or bound in folios) or I can outsource it for you as a new, second-hand, or a rare edition (charged at cost).
Design binding commissions start from €1500 euro. Final cost depends on the dimensions of the text block, the complexity of the cover design, material selection and the protective case system chosen, if any.
If you have a specific target budget, please let me know during your initial inquiry so I can advise on what design and structural details can be achieved within that range.
During the initial inquiry, which can be done in person or remotely by email or video call, we will be discussing your vision, aesthetic preferences, and the core inspiration behind the binding. Physical material samples and leather color swatches can be sent by post if needed.
The design is primarily inspired by the book's narrative, symbolism and themes. However, personal elements can be included, such as your personal interests or favorite color palettes.
It is strongly advised that a fine binding is housed in a custom-built, made-to-fit protective case to ensure safe long-term preservation.
Following our consultation, I will prepare a detailed design for your review (delivery time 2-3 weeks).
Once the design concept and final quote are approved, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to purchase the materials, order the necessary tools and secure your commission slot.
During the execution of the binding, various updates will be sent to you regarding my progress. However, if you prefer to allow me complete creative freedom, after approving the initial theme and budget, you can choose to leave the execution entirely to my artistic judgment and the final result will be revealed upon completion.
Prior to working on your actual book, I will produce some physical samples to test leather colors, tooling, stamping, painting or inlay/onlay work. This guarantees precision and allows you to see a tangible section of the design early in the process.
Key stages of the binding process are photographed and recorded. A dedicated step-by-step breakdown of your book's creation may be featured on my studio website or social media, after the completion of the project or on a previously agreed date.
A fine binding requires 60-160 hours of work (2-4 weeks) or more. Due to current studio capacity (one person behind the bench) and the meticulous nature of the craft, standard turnaround times typically range from 2 months up to 6 months.
If your commission is intended for a specific event or birthday, please inform me during the initial inquiry. Tighter deadlines can occasionally be accommodated depending on current schedule openings.
The remaining 70% balance plus shipping and insurance costs is due upon completion prior to delivery.
