This diary with lock and key is bound in antiqued brown leather. It was designed to resemble a medieval tome or journal. The metal brads placed in the corners and the lock have a dark patina to fit the overall antique look of this book. The brads will allow it to lay flat when opened but the surface of the covers will never enter in contact with the table and thus will protect the decoration from scratching. I saw this system used in old books and I just loved it.
The spine was designed to resemble that of an old mysterious tome, featuring six raised bands and three metal pins. It is decorated by tooling and leather paint.
The book measures 10.2 x 7.3 inches (26 x 18.5 cm). It has 124 pages (248 sides) of Favini Laguna artist paper with parchment finish. This paper is acid free, hand-torn, has 180 gsm and will work for writing and sketching in any media, even watercolor.
The end pages are made of hand marbled paper with brown and black veins. The headbands are sewn by hand from brown and black thread.
